Trusting God

Three Things God CANNOT Do

We all have heard the verse “with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)

We write it on sticky notes and fridge magnets, and we pray it over friends going through hard times. And it’s a great verse, a true verse, and a powerful verse.

But sometimes we forget about the things that God CANNOT do. Or at least the things that He absolutely, without question, WILL NOT do.

God Cannot Sin

“Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and He Himself tempts no one.” James 1:13

God will not sin. He cannot. He absolutely won’t. His Righteousness keeps Him from this one thing: sin. HE CANNOT SIN!

What does that mean, Rose?

It means that He always does good. His actions are always right. His intentions are always holy.

“God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the Son of Man (Jesus), that He should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do it? Or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?” Numbers 23:19

He isn’t like your backstabbing ‘friend’, He isn’t like your misunderstanding parent, He isn’t like the mean-hearted bully, and He isn’t like your annoying sibling. He isn’t like you. If you compare Him to sinners you can’t trust Him. Right?

If God wasn’t Holy and Just—if He really were a self-centered sinner— then you couldn’t fully trust Him.

But He isn’t.

You can trust Him because He is so Supremely Different from us. He is so above. He is so much greater. He is Righteous and True.

God will never mistreat you. He cannot sin against you. He absolutely, without question, will not do anything wrong.

In fact, He refuses to sin!

Why? Because He is Holy and won’t allow sin to taint His Perfection. So what does that mean?

You can trust Him.

God Cannot Lie

“So that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.” Hebrews 6:18

God will not lie. He cannot. He won’t. His Righteousness keeps Him from deception.

HE CANNOT LIE!

So, what does that mean, Rose?

He always tells the truth. His promises are trustworthy. You can stand on them and always expect Him to keep them. Down to the very last detail.

He is Faithful and He will never fail.

One of His greatest promises to you is that He will NEVER leave you nor forsake you. That means no matter what, Rose!

He absolutely cannot break His promise. He is bound to His word. That means He has bound Himself to you. You are His and He will always be with you.

Like always, always. Forever and ever. Eternally!

It’s so unshakable. If you are in Christ you can never, NEVER be plucked from His hand.

So what does that mean, Rose?

You can trust Him.

God Cannot Forsake

God will never leave or forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:18)  He has bound you to Himself through Christ’s blood. His love and forgiveness are always available to you.

“For the Lord will not reject his people;

He will never forsake His inheritance.” Psalm 94:14

He will never forsake His promises. They will always stand firm and come to pass. They are like a firm foundation that will never crumble.

But you can reject God’s love. You can turn down His help, His blessings, and His joy. You can withdraw from His gentle care, His tender love and His merciful kindness.

You can. And it’s awful and painful.

Why? Why do we do this?

Sadly, it is often because we don’t want to deal with sin. Sin can seem too big to deal with, too enjoyable in the moment, or too strong to fight.

But guess what? Those are just lies. Sin is nothing compared to God’s power. Its pleasure is nothing compared to God’s love and joy and delight.

Why would we listen to the lies of sin when we know that God doesn’t lie, doesn’t sin and will never forsake us? It’s rather ironic! Isn’t it?

Trust God: Say “Yes”, Rose

So if you have been afraid to say “yes” to God, to accept His blessings or His forgiveness, take that first tiny step today.

God will not force you, Rose. But He will reward you for coming to Him. He will encourage you to do right. He wants what is best for you.

He wants to pour His Mercy on you. God wants you to say “yes” and to see the marvelous work of His hands.

So stretch out your hands to Him and accept. Say “yes.” And be prepared because there is no end to the gifts you receive!

You can trust Him, Rose. Fully.

Even when it doesn’t make sense. Even when your heart aches or doubts. Even when you fall, God is the same. He never changes.

He NEVER fails.
